Donald Trump just held his first cabinet meeting and in usual fashion it was both bizarre and embarrassing. Those in attendance were forced to listen to Trump ramble on about his accomplishments for several minutes, during which he made an absurd claim:
“Never has there been a president – with few exceptions, in the case of FDR he had a major depression to handle – who’s passed more legislation, who’s done more things than what we’ve done.
Trump: “Never has there been a president” besides FDR “who’s passed more legislation, who’s done more things than what we’ve done.” pic.twitter.com/o5KWp9xHB2
The assertion is of course a shameless, outright lie. Trump’s administration so far has been remarkable in its fecklessness. The government is in disarray, and Trump has failed to pass any meaningful legislation.
His Muslim ban has been repeatedly struck down by the courts, Trumpcare is wasting away in the Senate, and he’s failed to make any progress on his Mexican border wall.
Trump ended the meeting by soliciting a pathetic string of praise from his cabinet members. The sycophantic fawning would feel more appropriate in an authoritarian regime. It’s shameful that an American president would be so insecure and demanding of flattery.
This is deeply weird & screwed up. Trump’s cabinet takes turns talking about how great he is while he smiles & nods https://t.co/qx9pu3KPcM
It’s not enough for Trump to destroy American credibility around the world and forward a toxic domestic agenda, he demands to be complimented while he does it.
